The Top 10 Personality Qualities of a Leader: Valuing People

Then she (Abigail) fell at his (David’s) feet and said: “On me, my lord, on me let this iniquity be! And please let your maidservant speak in your ears, and hear the words of your maidservant.” 1 Samuel 25:24 Continuing from yesterday, the "Top 10" personality qualities of an effective leader... Quality #7: Valuing People. Good leaders must have a fundamental value for people. They must care for people, desire to connect with people, be willing to listen to and understand people. This requires the desire and emotional intelligence to develop and maintain deep relationships with people. To value people is to respect, honor, and cherish them. It means you make a relationship with them a high priority. In the Scripture above, Abigail did exactly that. She assumed the role of a servant, submitting to David. She was secure enough to put herself in the servant’s role. She also understood how to make an appropriate appeal to David in order to accomplish her goal – and to help him accomplish David’s long-term goals as well. How much do you value, truly value people?
